The Tapestry states that Harold made his oath in Bayeux, but William of Poitiers claims the oath took place at Bonneville-sur-Toques and Orderic Vitalis at Rouen.
The sacred oath, together with the granting of arms by William are of major importance in the Tapestry. The implication is that by taking the crown of England Harold has broken faith with his liege lord and broken his oath to God.
