Here Duke William in a great ship

The tapestry shows the construction, launching, supplying and embarkation of William’s fleet as a seamless process. However, there is evidence to suggest that the ships were constructed at the mouth of the River Dives and then sailed to Saint Valery-sur-Somme, where they awaited a favourable wind to complete the Channel crossing.
